It's time to put winter aside and get back in the saddle for the 'world's flattest century', not even an overpass!  The Tarwheel Century will be one of the most beautiful rides you can do.  Our completely sagged century will take you through the historical downtown areas of both Elizabeth City and Edenton, NC.  If Mother Nature cooperates, there will be azaleas and dogwood trees in bloom along the attractive waterside.

The start and finish point is at River Road Middle School on River Road in Elizabeth City, NC.  Registration will start at 6:30 a.m. and the last rider must be out by 9:00 a.m.  There will be a mandatory riders' meeting at 7:30 a.m. and a mass start to follow.  The ride will take place rain or shine.

Hot showers will be available after the ride!

Tormenting climbs, treacherous descents, and tantalizing flats will be part of the varied terrain featured in the 102-mile route for the 5th Annual Blood, Sweat, and Gears -- God's Country Century Challenge. The demanding route, which showcases the mountain communities of Watauga County, North Carolina, will require over 9,000 feet of total climbing. Highlights of the route will include a 20+ mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a three-mile "flat" along the South Fork of the New River, and a strenuous climb over the 4,500-foot Snake Mountain. The ride has 6 aide stations with food, water and Powerade. A 57-mile segment will also be offered for those riders who prefer the sanity of a challenging, but shorter route.

Definitely one of the premier mountain centuries. Highly recommended in Rocket Man's Ride Ratings. Try it, you'll like it.

The Roan Moan Metric and Roan Moan Century are fundraising events for The Bakersville Volunteer Fire & Rescue. The rides are sponsored by The Bakersville Volunteer Fire & Rescue and The Bicycle Inn.

The Roan Moan Century: Grueling! But one of the most beautiful rides you can do. It adds a climb over Unaka Mountain with a screaming downhill ride through the "tree tunnel" and into Erwin, Tennessee before joining the "Roan Moan" course. 8500 feet of climbing.

The Roan Moan Metric: A hard & beautiful "metric century plus" with the annual climb over Iron Mountain with its wild descent, the tour of "Simmerly Creek", "Tweetsie RR Grade" and ascent of the most unique mountain in the east. Ending with 15.7 miles of fast riding, almost all downhill, back to Bakersville & The Bicycle Inn.

Comments from a local rider about the 2003 Magical Mystery Tour:
"These two days of riding are probably two of the fastest century rides of 2004.  This tour is labeled the MS 150 because many riders take on two 75 mile routes each day, but they also have century routes each day to make it a double century weekend.  I attended this tour in 2003 along with about 900 other riders, and it was fun and fast.  A slew of local riders from the Triangle joined me on the century routes, and with the large turnout of riders you could drop into a pace line at any speed you could ask for.  All routes are supported with aid stations and great volunteers because this event is a fund-raiser for the MS Society."

Tumbling rivers, serene pastures, and magnificent mountaintop views of fall colors highlight the route. Both rides start and finish at the Spruce Pine Community Hospital (SPCH) and meander through Mitchell and Yancey counties. The shorter course is 57 miles in length (4280 feet of climbing).

Riders warm their legs on the gentle climb up Fork Mountain outside Bakersville, then enjoy the beautiful riverside along the Toe River and the rocky tumble of the Cane River. The very names of the communities along the way describe the terrain: Tipton Hill, Red Hill, and Loafers Glory!

Century riders enjoy and additional loop through the pastoral splendor of Jack's Creek Valley before a three-mile climb to the top of Bald Mountain and, later, a gravity-assisted dash through Bee Log and Huntdale. This ride boasts 6613 cumulative feet of climbing

All riders return home along Mine Creek and Snow Creek Roads, eager to share their day's stories over veggie chili and sandwiches at the ride's end.

The 6th annual TOUR de LEAVES bike ride is a beautiful ride through Western North Carolina and South Carolina. The ride features short and long climbs through Henderson and Polk counties in North Carolina and Greenville County South Carolina. The "moderate" route features 2,500 feet of climbing and the metric 4,691 feet. The last 10 miles are relatively flat (phew!). Brilliant colors of orange, yellow, and red set against the deep green pine and laurel forest make this a unique ride. Dress in layers because the air is crisp to start.
