CARY POLICE ESTABLISH ROAD WATCH HOTLINE

CARY, NC -- The Town of Cary has established the Road Watch Complaint Line, a 24-hour telephone service that citizens can use to report dangerous motor vehicle operation. This service is intended to give motorists and other roadway users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, a lawful outlet for the frustration and anger they may experience as a result of another person's thoughtlessness.

The Road Watch telephone number is (919) 319-4521.

"People living in or traveling through Cary now have a constructive way to deal with traffic frustrations," said Lt. Doug Scott, director of the Cary Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. "The Road Watch Complaint Line is a sort of 'Community Watch' for our streets," added Scott, who pointed out that discourteous and dangerous driving often leads to roadway conflicts that can result in driver distraction, accidents, or even violence.

When a staff person is unavailable, callers to Cary's Road Watch Complaint Line will hear an introductory message that asks them to provide as much detailed information as possible, including:

- The make, model, and color of the suspect vehicle
- The vehicle's license plate number and state
- The date, time, and location of the hazardous operation
- A description of the driver and the vehicle's occupants
- A detailed account of the hazardous operation you observed

Because complaints need to be verified before being investigated, callers will also be asked to give their name, address, and telephone number. Every effort will be made to keep personal information confidential.

PRIMARY CONTACTS: Lt. Doug Scott, Cary PD Traffic Enforce. Prog., 460-4903
Bill Coleman, Town Manager, 469-4002
